Jaipur, 7 December: Under the leadership of District Superintendent of Police Narendra Singh Meena, Barmer police swiftly cracked a daylight robbery case during Operation Khulasa. The Riko police station arrested the accused within 24 hours, who had attacked an elderly woman with a blade and stolen her gold jewelry.
SP Meena stated that the incident occurred around 2:00 pm on 5 December 2025. The complainant, Rukhma Jat, a resident of Bhadkha, was walking to her paternal village Magne Ki Dhani after getting off a bus at Shivkar Bus Stand. Suddenly, a youth on an unregistered bike stopped her at a secluded spot, attacked her with a blade, and snatched her gold timaniya, kanthi, and hardiya necklaces before fleeing the scene.
Given the seriousness of the case, SP Meena directed an investigation under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Nitesh Arya and Circle Officer Ramesh Kumar Sharma. Riko police station in-charge Bhanwar Singh formed a special team. The police conducted thorough checks of the crime scene and scrutinised suspects travelling on Shivkar Road. Based on technical evidence and informers’ tips, the accused was identified and arrested within 24 hours. After confessing to the crime during interrogation, the accused was taken into custody for identification parade.
The police interrogation revealed that the accused was staying in a rented room in Baldev Nagar, Barmer, preparing for competitive exams. However, greed for quick money led him astray. He became addicted to the share market and online gaming and gambling. To fund his addiction, he pawned his wife’s, sister’s, and sister-in-law’s jewelry at banks and took gold loans, all of which he lost gambling.
Under mounting pressure from banks to repay loans, he planned the robbery. He acquired a new bike and began scouting villages and towns for potential victims. On 5 December afternoon at Sindhari Chowk, he spotted an elderly woman wearing gold jewelry on a bus. He followed the bus on his bike and attacked her when she got off and walked alone at Shivkar Bus Stand, snatching her jewelry.
Prior to this, the accused had attempted to rob women in Dhanau, Udasar, and Baytu but failed due to the presence of bystanders.
