
Shillong, May 30: Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, is on a three-day visit to Shillong from May 29 to 31. On Saturday, he participated in a Rhododendron trek alongside enthusiastic volunteers from My Bharat, surrounded by the region’s stunning natural beauty.
During the trek, the Minister engaged with the youth, emphasizing the importance of fitness, adventure, environmental awareness, and a deep connection with nature. He praised the energy and dedication of the My Bharat volunteers and encouraged young people to partake in activities that promote both physical fitness and environmental conservation.
The trek, which winds through Meghalaya’s breathtaking landscapes and vibrant rhododendron paths, embodies the spirit of ‘youth engagement,’ fitness, and nation-building through collective participation and shared experiences.
Mansukh Mandaviya is also participating in a series of programs related to infrastructure development and the review of centrally sponsored schemes in the state. During his visit, he will attend a brainstorming camp organized by the Department of Youth Affairs. On May 30, he will inaugurate a multi-purpose indoor sports complex in Shillong alongside Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
This integrated multi-purpose indoor sports complex, developed at a project cost of ₹132.9 crores, is designed as a modern multi-functional sports facility capable of hosting various indoor sports events, including basketball, badminton, and volleyball.
Additionally, the Union Minister will chair a review meeting concerning preparations for the 39th National Games 2026. This meeting will include presentations and discussions from Meghalaya officials and representatives from other northeastern states. On May 31, he will also review the implementation and progress of centrally sponsored schemes in the Ri-Bhoi district under the Northeast Connectivity Initiative.
