
Singapore, May 30: India’s Secretary of Defense, Rajesh Kumar Singh, engaged in discussions with Belen Martinez Cornubet, Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS), and Lieutenant General Enrico Barduani, Vice Chairman of the European Union Military Committee. The three-day dialogue commenced on Friday.
The Ministry of Defense’s Public Relations Directorate shared updates on social media platform ‘X’, highlighting advancements in strategic dialogue between India and the European Union. The discussions focused on shared security interests and opportunities to deepen defense and strategic cooperation. Both parties emphasized the importance of enhancing collaboration in the regional and global security landscape.
On Friday, Secretary Singh also met with Admiral Giuseppe Cavò Draghi, Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee, and Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, Commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. They discussed enhancing military cooperation, strengthening strategic dialogue, and addressing new security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Public Relations Directorate noted on X that during the meeting with Admiral Giuseppe, the main focus was on reinforcing strategic dialogue and sharing insights on evolving global security challenges. This conversation reaffirmed India’s commitment to constructive collaboration with major multilateral defense organizations.
In discussions with Admiral Paparo, the emphasis was on strengthening military cooperation, enhancing partnerships in the Indo-Pacific, and addressing emerging security challenges, reiterating the shared commitment to bolster strategic defense relations between India and the U.S.
The Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore gathers defense ministers, military leaders, and policymakers from various nations. It features extensive discussion sessions and bilateral meetings among representatives from different countries. Policymakers from the Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe, the Middle East, and other regions engage in discussions on regional security issues and strategies to address them.
During the Shangri-La Dialogue, Rajesh Kumar Singh also interacted with several prominent think tanks and academic experts. The focus of these discussions was on strengthening the Indo-Pacific security framework, enhancing collaboration in the defense industry, and partnerships in new technologies.
On Thursday, Rajesh Kumar Singh visited the Digital Operations Technology Center (DOTC) of the Singapore Armed Forces’ Digital and Intelligence Service. According to the Ministry of Defense, this visit provided insights into Singapore’s advanced digital and technological capabilities and discussed potential collaborations with the Indian Armed Forces in new areas related to modern warfare.
The Shangri-La Dialogue is Asia’s premier defense and security summit, organized annually in Singapore by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). It is also referred to as the ‘Asia Security Summit.’
