
New Delhi, May 30: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan attended the 40th Foundation Day celebration of Goa as the chief guest in Panaji on Saturday. During the event, he paid tribute to the state’s former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
The Vice President stated, “As we celebrate the glorious occasion of Goa’s Foundation Day, we respectfully remember Manohar Parrikar, a visionary leader whose simplicity, integrity, and dedication have left an indelible mark on Goa’s progress.”
He emphasized that Goa is a confluence of heritage and progress, tradition and modernity, as well as local pride and global perspective. He expressed satisfaction that the ‘Blue Economy’ will be one of the key pillars of India’s growth, noting that Goa is emerging as a leader in this area.
During the 40th Goa Foundation Day ceremony, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan also unveiled a commemorative postage stamp honoring the great cartoonist Mario Miranda.
He remarked that Goa is uniquely positioned to contribute to the next phase of India’s development and innovation. “Goa is not just a small state; it is a beautiful state. It is not merely a tourist destination known for its natural beauty. We often say Goa is a small state, but it is a beautiful state. Small is always beautiful. It is a vibrant civilization shaped by centuries of cultural exchange, intellectual openness, maritime enterprise, and social harmony. From ancient temples and grand churches to its music, literature, and festivals, Goa embodies the essence of India’s pluralistic spirit.”
The Vice President also noted that Goa is known as the land of Parshuram, a title deeply rooted in its civilizational and cultural heritage.
Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for the rapid development in the state. He stated that the promotion of infrastructure and large development projects has been made possible under Modi’s guidance. He added that these projects are designed to benefit future generations for the next 50 years.
