Vadodara, May 30: In a significant development, Ashok Ojha, the Vadodara district president of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and his associate Nitin Dobariya have been arrested for allegedly threatening party worker Keshavji Chauhan under the guise of being intelligence officers. The duo reportedly posed as officials from the central intelligence agency to intimidate Chauhan. Following an investigation, police apprehended both individuals.
Interestingly, AAP’s national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, had previously referenced this “harassment” in a post on the social media platform X, which turned out to be a result of internal strife within the party. An FIR has been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
A senior police officer revealed that on May 28, AAP leaders had posted claims that threats were made using the name of the intelligence bureau, warning workers that they needed to verify their identities.
The officer stated that the police took note of these allegations. A thorough investigation revealed that Ashok Ojha felt threatened by Keshavji Chauhan, leading him to conspire to eliminate his colleague by impersonating an intelligence officer and issuing threats. Consequently, police arrested Ojha and Dobariya in connection with this case.
In a twist, Kejriwal took to social media to make accusations regarding this false claim. He wrote, “This is a serious matter. I called this number and asked if they were from the IB. They said yes. I identified myself as Arvind Kejriwal and questioned under what law they were conducting verifications. The call was abruptly disconnected, and since then, they have not answered. The IB should clarify if this is their number. Our workers receive numerous calls from the IB. Everyone should call this number and ask why a citizen traveling from one state to another needs to verify with the IB. The next time I visit Gujarat, I will personally inquire at the IB office. If any worker receives a call from the IB, they should post it on social media so the public can question them too.”
In response to Kejriwal’s allegations, BJP leader Tajinder Bagga sharply criticized him on social media. He posted, “Another day, another lie from Kejriwal exposed. He claimed that his workers were receiving calls for ‘IB verification’ in Gujarat, attempting to spread fear. However, Gujarat police have debunked this entire drama. These calls did not come from the Intelligence Bureau but from AAP worker Nitin Dobariya, acting under the instructions of Vadodara’s AAP chief Ashok Ojha. Fake victimhood, fake propaganda, fake politics—it’s all part of the Kejriwal model.”
