CBI Arrests Cantonment Board Member in Bribery Case in Meerut

New Delhi, May 30: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made a significant move against corruption by arresting a nominated member of the Cantonment Board in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, while he was accepting a bribe of ₹300,000. This operation was revealed on May 30, following the registration of a preliminary FIR on May 29. The CBI has filed a case against the accused.

According to the CBI, this incident is linked to the Gandhi Bagh area of Meerut Cantonment, where a tender process related to parking, canteen, and entry fee collection was underway. The accused allegedly demanded an illegal bribe of ₹300,000 to ensure the smooth continuation of the tender and to prevent any disruptions in the operations of the associated firm.

The tender was awarded to a private firm, managed by the complainant on behalf of his mother. The complainant reported that the accused was persistently pressuring him for money to ensure that the work continued without interruption. Based on this complaint, the CBI initiated an investigation and devised a strategy to confirm the allegations.

On May 29, the CBI set a trap and caught the accused red-handed while he was accepting the bribe. At the time of his arrest, he was in the process of receiving the ₹300,000 from the complainant. Following this operation, he was immediately taken into custody.

After the arrest, the accused is being presented in a competent court in Ghaziabad. CBI officials have stated that a detailed investigation is ongoing to determine if there are any other individuals involved or if this is part of a larger corruption network.

This action has caused a stir in administrative circles associated with the Cantonment Board, and the matter is being taken very seriously.
