Mumbai, May 8: Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Nirupam has strongly responded to AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi’s remarks regarding ‘Vande Mataram’. He stated that anyone opposing this song is not truly Indian and has no right to live in the country.
In a discussion in Mumbai, Nirupam highlighted that ‘Vande Mataram’ is celebrating its 150th anniversary. During India’s freedom struggle, millions of freedom fighters and ordinary citizens sang and drew inspiration from it. He asserted that anyone who raises objections to ‘Vande Mataram’ is, in fact, not an Indian. Those who oppose this song should not have the right to reside in the country.
Nirupam remarked that while Owaisi’s ancestors may not have sung this song, it was sung by our freedom fighters against the British. He issued a clear warning that disrespecting ‘Vande Mataram’ is an insult to India, and such individuals should have their citizenship revoked.
Addressing the Hindi language, Nirupam emphasized that no one is forced to speak Hindi. Even if Hindi is not considered the national language, it is recognized as the official language and a medium of communication. It has not been imposed on anyone. If there is a proposal for government officials to learn Hindi, he believes there should be no significant controversy over it. Learning Hindi is not a disadvantage.
Regarding the recent political decisions in Tamil Nadu, Nirupam stated that the Congress party has never upheld the principles of coalition politics. He pointed out that Congress has a history of such behavior. In the recent Tamil Nadu elections, they allied with DMK, which lost. Now, with a new party emerging as a political player, Congress has supported it with its five MLAs, despite having contested against DMK. This is a violation of coalition ethics. Nirupam described Congress as a power-hungry party willing to compromise with anyone.
He also referenced the Somnath temple, noting that Mahmud of Ghazni attacked it multiple times a thousand years ago, devastating and looting this ancient Shiva temple. Today marks the thousandth anniversary of the attacks on Somnath. The restoration and reconstruction of the Somnath temple symbolize India’s resurgence and cultural renaissance.
