Kolkata, May 18: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari paid tribute to his late personal assistant, Chandranath Rath, at his residence on Sunday. During the visit, the Chief Minister met with the victim’s mother and assured the family that justice would be served.
Chandranath’s mother, Hasirani Rath, shared with the media that the Chief Minister was visibly emotional during the visit. “I trust the Chief Minister. I hope justice will prevail in my son’s murder case,” she stated.
She expressed her gratitude, saying, “It is a great honor for me that he came to my home. He remembered my son. Many forget everything after attaining a position, but he came and wept. The Chief Minister assured us he will ensure strict punishment for the culprits.”
Hasirani emphasized that those responsible for her son’s murder should face severe consequences. “We have faith in the Chief Minister. He also desires harsh punishment for the guilty. We have called for justice, and as the CBI investigation progresses, we will uncover everything.”
On the night of May 6, Chandranath was shot dead in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas district, while seated next to the driver in a vehicle. The driver was also injured in the attack.
Reports indicate that the assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire. Following the incident, both Chandranath and the injured driver were rushed to the hospital, but doctors declared Chandranath dead on arrival.
In response to the murder, the state police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. Investigators have arrested two individuals from Uttar Pradesh and a sharpshooter from Buxar, Bihar. However, the identity of the main conspirator and the motive behind the murder remain unclear. Currently, the CBI is conducting the investigation.
