New Delhi, May 17: Arvind Kejriwal, the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), made an emotional appeal to candidates of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) on Sunday. He urged them not to take any drastic actions in light of the stress and depression following the cancellation of the medical entrance exam.
In a post on the social media platform X, Kejriwal encouraged students to share their feelings and suggestions through comments or direct messages, assuring them, “We are with you.”
He referenced alarming reports of student suicides linked to the NEET controversy, noting that four students have tragically taken their lives—one in Goa, one in Sikar, Rajasthan, one in Delhi, and one in Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh.
In a video message shared on social media, Kejriwal expressed his concern, stating, “We are receiving numerous messages and phone calls from students saying they are depressed due to the cancellation of the NEET exam.” He urged all students, “Please do not take extreme steps. I understand your worries.”
Kejriwal acknowledged the immense pressure students face during competitive exams, recalling his own experiences with the IIT and UPSC examinations. He said, “I know the kind of stress we go through while preparing for exams, taking them, and returning home afterward. If something like this had happened during my time, I can’t imagine how I would have felt.”
However, the former Chief Minister of Delhi emphasized that suicide and extreme measures are not solutions. He called for collective efforts to address the issues surrounding NEET, stating, “We must work together to find solutions.”
