Hyderabad, May 17: K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), the executive president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has called for the immediate dismissal of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, to ensure a fair and independent investigation into the POCSO case involving his son, Bandi Bhagirath.
KTR’s demand comes a day after Bhagirath’s arrest and subsequent judicial custody. He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for frequently promoting the slogan “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao,” arguing that without justice in such cases, these slogans become mere political rhetoric.
Addressing a party event in LB Nagar, Hyderabad, KTR stated that it is unprecedented for a central minister’s son to be subjected to a lookout notice. He questioned how the accused managed to evade capture for nine days and who provided him protection during that time.
He emphasized that a fair investigation is impossible while Bandi Sanjay remains in office, urging the central government to remove him from the cabinet immediately. KTR described the continued presence of individuals accused of misusing power in constitutional positions as an affront not only to Telangana but to the entire nation.
He alleged that the minister’s son had committed injustices against a minor girl, while the victim’s parents faced threats and intimidation. KTR accused Bandi Sanjay of personally threatening and harassing the victim’s family.
He also claimed that Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy attempted to downplay the seriousness of the case. KTR criticized both the BJP and Congress for trying to suppress the issue by labeling it a “honey trap,” and he suggested that certain media outlets were pressured to downplay the news.
KTR warned that if those in power are allowed to evade accountability, it will deter women and minors from coming forward in cases of harassment or exploitation. He asserted that failure to take strict action would send a dangerous message that influential individuals are above the law.
He reiterated the call for the immediate dismissal of the central minister and for a transparent and independent investigation into the case. KTR praised the courage of the victim’s mother and family, who have refused to back down despite alleged threats and pressure.
He commended the victim’s family for standing firm in their pursuit of justice, despite attempts by leaders at both state and central levels to suppress the case. KTR described this struggle as “historic and courageous,” urging society to support the family in their fight for justice against Bhagirath.
He acknowledged the efforts of BRS women leaders, student organizations, and social media activists who have consistently demanded justice in this matter. KTR noted that BRS women leaders have organized protests across Telangana, met with the Women’s Commission and the Director General of Police, and demonstrated near the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar to advocate for the victim’s justice.
He also praised senior BRS leader R.S. Praveen Kumar for raising the issue vigorously and supporting the victim’s family.
