Ramgarh, May 17: A tragic incident occurred near the Damodar River in Ramgarh, Jharkhand, on Sunday, resulting in the drowning deaths of two teenagers. A third teenager was rescued by local residents.
The incident has cast a pall of grief over the area. By late evening, the bodies of the two boys were recovered from the river. The deceased have been identified as 14-year-old Prince Sonkar, son of Bablu Sonkar from Main Road, Subhash Chowk, and Vaibhav, son of Deepak Kumar Verma from Ayodhya Nagar near Bijuliya Talab.
Reports indicate that the three boys, aged between 14 and 15, had left their homes under the pretense of playing football. Seeking relief from the intense heat, they decided to take a dip in the Damodar River at Garhbandh.
While swimming, they unexpectedly found themselves in deep water and began to drown. Local residents quickly sprang into action, managing to rescue Ayush Kumar Tiwari, who was also struggling in the water. Unfortunately, Prince and Vaibhav submerged in the deeper parts of the river.
According to locals, the section of the Damodar River at Garhbandh has become particularly deep due to the construction of a check dam for a water supply project. Upon receiving news of the incident, local authorities and a large number of villagers rushed to the scene, initiating a thorough search operation for the missing boys. By late Sunday evening, the bodies were recovered near the Garhbandh check dam. The heartbreaking event has left the families of the victims in deep sorrow.
