
Hyderabad, May 18: Political tensions have escalated following the arrest of Sai Bhagirath, son of Union Minister Bandisanjay Kumar, in a POCSO case. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has denied any interference, emphasizing respect for the law, while opposition parties have hailed the arrest as a positive development.
BJP leader and High Court lawyer Krishna Kant Pothireddy stated, “As Bandisanjay Kumar mentioned on Saturday, Sai Bhagirath has surrendered to the police, respecting the legal process and judiciary. Our stance has always been clear: we have complete faith in the Constitution, legal procedures, and the judiciary.”
BJP spokesperson R.P. Singh in New Delhi remarked, “The law will take its course. There will be no defense or interference from our side. Bandisanjay Kumar has encouraged his son to surrender, which is commendable. Any legal actions will be carried out according to the law.”
TRS leader M. Varalakshmi expressed surprise at the developments, saying, “Today we are witnessing something astonishing. Bandisanjay claims he handed his son over to the police, meaning he took him to the police station. However, the police state that they arrested him.”
M. Kodandaram, founder of the Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS), welcomed the arrest, stating, “Sai Bhagirath’s arrest is absolutely right. The law prohibits any sexual relations with a minor. This is a serious crime. Sai Bhagirath was misusing his father’s position to intimidate and pressure people. The law is equal for everyone.”
Meanwhile, K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), executive president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has called for the immediate removal of the Union Minister to ensure a fair and independent investigation.
