Srinagar, May 18: The National Commission for Women (NCW) organized a two-day ‘Shakti Samvad’ program over the weekend in Srinagar. This event brought together the chairpersons, members, and member secretaries of state women’s commissions.
The primary goal of the ‘Shakti Samvad’ program was to enhance coordination among the commissions dedicated to women’s empowerment.
Representatives from 20 states participated, focusing on strengthening institutional coordination, enhancing capacity building, and promoting dialogue for women’s welfare and empowerment.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar addressed the inaugural session, stating, “Today, we need not only to create plans and policies but also to establish a responsible ecosystem. An ecosystem where the NCW becomes a center of trust, justice, and support, rather than just a platform for grievance redressal.”
She further emphasized, “Every woman should feel that her voice will be heard and that she will receive justice with dignity. ‘Shakti Samvad’ is not just an event; it is a vibrant symbol of the collective resolve of India’s women power. It is a platform where ideas converge, experiences connect, and resolve transforms into action.”
Rahatkar highlighted that while women today are making significant contributions across governance, judiciary, science, media, and public life, ensuring their safety, dignity, and equal opportunities remains a collective responsibility.
She also stressed that women’s commissions are not merely grievance redressal bodies but institutions of trust, support, and justice for women.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who attended as the chief guest, remarked, “Women in Jammu and Kashmir are emerging as a strong force for progress and leadership. Our daughters are excelling in education, civil services, and innovation, playing a crucial role in shaping the future of a developed India by 2047.”
He underscored the importance of coordinated institutional efforts and policy support in advancing women-led development in India. Singh also noted that science and technology are powerful means of social change, significantly improving women’s lives by enhancing their access to education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and digital opportunities.
Experts and participants discussed emerging challenges affecting women across the country, including changing legal frameworks, workplace dignity, and institutional responses, sharing their insights and suggestions.
