Amit Shah Launches ₹620 Crore Urban Infrastructure Projects in Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar, May 17: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 47 development projects worth ₹620 crore initiated by the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation on Sunday.

The event was held in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and included projects related to healthcare, water supply, sewage treatment, roads, gardens, sports infrastructure, and urban civic amenities in the Gandhinagar parliamentary constituency.

The program featured the inauguration of 21 completed projects and the foundation laying of 26 new ones, aimed at strengthening urban infrastructure and enhancing public services.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Amit Shah stated that the government led by Bhupendra Patel is effectively continuing the development journey initiated by Prime Minister Modi in Gujarat. He emphasized that victories in local self-governance elections reflect the public’s trust in development.

He mentioned that the municipal corporation has launched projects in areas like Pethapur, providing drinking water facilities, libraries, Primary Health Centers (PHCs), Community Health Centers (CHCs), and cement roads. The state government and the municipal corporation are focusing on sewage water treatment, beautification of lakes, supplying pure Narmada water to homes, and establishing yoga centers.

He asserted that confidence, not arrogance, defines their government. Gandhinagar is being developed into a modern and convenient city, making it one of the best-equipped parliamentary constituencies in the country.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel stated that the state government is committed to developing pollution-free, waste-free, and slum-free cities with robust infrastructure and a green environment. Smaller towns and surrounding areas are being developed as ‘City Economic Regions.’

CM Patel noted that Home Minister Amit Shah has adopted a long-term and sustainable development approach for the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, aiming to make it the greenest parliamentary area in the country. The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation has set a target of planting five lakh trees this year.

Key projects inaugurated include a modern sewage treatment plant in Kolwada, built at a cost of ₹16.11 crore. This plant utilizes ISR technology and has the capacity to treat three million liters of polluted water daily.

Officials stated that this plant will help address issues related to odor, pollution, and mosquitoes in the area, and will also aid in rejuvenating Kolwada Lake by releasing treated water.

During the inauguration, the Union Minister planted a banyan tree and appealed for increased greenery.

Modern yoga studios developed at a cost of ₹2.95 crore in Sector-25 and Sargasan were also opened to the public.

These facilities include climate-controlled indoor yoga halls with special flooring, advanced lighting, and sound systems, separate changing rooms for men and women, drinking water arrangements, beautifully landscaped outdoor environments, and administrative rooms for yoga instructors. Officials expect these centers to benefit over 2,000 residents and will also be used for wellness workshops and International Yoga Day events.

Under the healthcare infrastructure projects, urban health centers in Sector-21, Sector-22, and Sargasan were inaugurated.

Officials indicated that these centers aim to strengthen primary healthcare services, maternal and child health services, vaccination, and preventive health facilities for local residents.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel remarked that development works equivalent to the annual budgets of municipalities are now being completed in a single day. He expressed gratitude to the central government for approving the recently sanctioned ₹20,000 crore Sarkhej-Dholera semi-high-speed rail line project.
