New Delhi, May 17: In a bid to promote public transport and reduce reliance on private vehicles, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced several measures on Sunday. These initiatives include additional trains, improved security measures, and expanded facilities for passengers across the Delhi-NCR network.
Starting from May 18, six extra trains will operate every Monday, resulting in 24 additional train services. The corporation stated that more services could be added on other days based on passenger demand.
This initiative comes amid a growing emphasis on energy security, sustainable mobility, and environmental protection. DMRC aims to position metro services as a reliable alternative to petroleum-based road transport.
In an official statement, DMRC expressed its readiness to handle any potential increase in passenger numbers. The organization will closely monitor travel patterns to ensure seamless and efficient operations.
To facilitate smooth passenger movement, the metro operator is also strengthening station management and security infrastructure. Measures include deploying additional security personnel, operating more ticket counters, activating extra door frame metal detectors (DFMD), and baggage scanners, as well as reducing waiting times at security checkpoints during peak hours.
Highlighting the importance of integrated urban transport, DMRC noted that its network seamlessly connects with railway stations, inter-state bus terminals (ISBT), airport terminals, the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), the Noida Metro, and the Gurugram Rapid Metro.
The metro network links major commercial centers, government offices, educational institutions, tourist attractions, and cultural sites across Delhi-NCR.
The statement emphasized that Delhi Metro continues to provide extensive urban access, connecting areas from Chandni Chowk and Connaught Place to Cyber City, educational hubs, and prominent landmarks.
To improve first-mile and last-mile connectivity, DMRC has developed a comprehensive ecosystem at 160 metro stations. This initiative benefits approximately 100,000 passengers daily through services like e-autos, e-rickshaws, bike taxis, cab aggregators, and bicycle rentals.
