New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda on Thursday. The meeting was confirmed by PM Modi himself.
Sharing pictures of the interaction on the social media platform ‘X’, PM Modi posted two images. In one, he is seen presenting a bouquet to Deve Gowda, while in the other, the two leaders are engaged in a discussion, with Modi holding Deve Gowda’s hands, reflecting the importance of their conversation.
Speaking about the meeting, PM Modi said, “Had a conversation with H.D. Deve Gowda. His meaningful views on key issues are worth noting. His enthusiasm for India’s development is equally commendable.”
H.D. Deve Gowda served as India’s Prime Minister from 1996 to 1997 and currently leads the Janata Dal (Secular) party. His party is part of the NDA alliance and collaborates with the BJP in Karnataka. Deve Gowda has long been vocal on issues such as agriculture, rural development, and water resources. He is also a former Chief Minister of Karnataka and presently a member of the Rajya Sabha. Due to his age and extensive political experience, his guidance holds significant weight in political circles.
In recent years, the two leaders have met several times, indicating strengthened coordination among NDA allies. Deve Gowda has previously praised many of PM Modi’s initiatives.
Political analysts believe that this meeting goes beyond courtesy and holds strategic importance, especially in Karnataka, where JD(S) continues to have influence. With upcoming assembly and other elections, reinforcing the alliance remains crucial.
