New Delhi, April 10: A significant police operation in Punjab has led to the arrest of a notorious fugitive. The Punjab Police, with assistance from central agencies and the OFTEC (Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell), apprehended Amritpal Singh Mehar, the main accused in a sensational murder case.
The incident dates back to June 11, 2025, when social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, known as ‘Kamal Bhabhi’, was murdered in Bathinda. Reports allege that Amritpal Singh, along with three accomplices, kidnapped the victim before killing her. Her body was later abandoned near a hospital in a car, causing widespread shock in the area.
While three of his accomplices had already been arrested, Amritpal Singh fled abroad following the crime. He managed to evade capture by continuously eluding police efforts. Subsequently, the Punjab Police collaborated with central agencies to locate him and confirmed his hiding spot in the Middle East.
The Indian government, along with relevant agencies, initiated the extradition process. After a lengthy legal and intelligence operation, he was deported back to India.
On the morning of April 10, he was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. He was immediately taken into custody and handed over to the Punjab Police for further legal proceedings.
The Punjab Police stated that they maintain a zero-tolerance policy against organized crime and serious offenses in the state. Officials emphasized that no criminal can escape the law, whether within the country or abroad.
