Mumbai, May 14: The impact of the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) is evident in the domestic circuit. Several wrestlers who participated in the historic fifth season showcased their skills at the Senior Open Ranking Wrestling Tournament held in Gonda from May 10 to 12. Medal winners from this competition are now eligible to participate in the upcoming World Championship and Commonwealth Championship selection trials.
Athletes from PWL Season 5 delivered outstanding performances, proving the value of the continuous practice and competition opportunities provided by the league alongside top wrestlers at both domestic and international levels.
The stars of PWL have made the nation proud on the international stage, and their recent domestic successes further affirm that the league has nurtured exceptional talent.
In the men’s freestyle category, Sagar from UP Dominators clinched gold in the 57 kg weight class. Meanwhile, Yash Tushir from Maharashtra Kesari triumphed in the 74 kg category.
World Junior Bronze Medalist Tushir last competed internationally two years ago at the Asian Championship. He faced challenges with injuries to his knee, shoulder, and toe, which forced him to take a six-month break. After this setback, Tushir made a remarkable comeback.
Naveen from Mumbai Dangal secured gold in the 79 kg category. Additionally, renowned wrestler Deepak Punia represented Maharashtra Kesari, achieving top honors in the 92 kg category and adding another gold to his illustrious career.
In the women’s competition, Anjali from Delhi Dangal Warriors won silver in the 62 kg category, strengthening her bid ahead of the upcoming national team selection process.
The league’s impact is further highlighted by the fact that out of the 17 medals won by India at the Senior Asian Wrestling Championship, 11 were clinched by PWL wrestlers. This underscores the significance of the league as a vital platform for Indian wrestlers to achieve success at continental and global levels.
