Severe Heatwave Continues in Madhya Pradesh, Khajuraho Hits 45.4 Degrees Celsius

Bhopal, May 14: The severe heatwave in Madhya Pradesh persisted on Thursday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhopal issued a detailed weather bulletin, reporting significant temperature increases across various regions of the state.

On May 14, 2026, data indicated extreme weather conditions, including scorching heat, warm nights, and sporadic rain, thunderstorms, and hail. Khajuraho in Chhatarpur district recorded the highest temperature in the state at 45.4 degrees Celsius.

Other cities experiencing extreme heat included Ratlam at 45.2 degrees Celsius and Dhar at 45 degrees Celsius. In contrast, Pachmarhi recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 19.4 degrees Celsius.

The weather report noted that maximum temperatures remained relatively stable over the past 24 hours, although they were significantly higher than normal in the Indore and Ujjain divisions. Districts like Dhar, Ratlam, and Khajuraho have already reported heatwave conditions, while residents of Indore and Ujjain faced uncomfortable warm nights.

The IMD has issued warnings for ongoing heatwave conditions in several districts, including Guna, Rajgarh, and Gwalior. Partly cloudy skies are expected in Bhopal and surrounding areas, with temperatures predicted to hover around 43 degrees Celsius.

Despite the intense heat, light rain was recorded in some regions. Showers were noted in the Jabalpur and Shahdol divisions, with Khairlanji receiving 11.2 mm of rain. Hail was reported in some areas, including Seoni, while Satna experienced dust storms.

Strong winds were observed in several locations, with speeds reaching up to 52 km/h in Chitrakoot. Officials have advised residents to stay hydrated and avoid direct sunlight between 12 PM and 3 PM.

Farmers are also encouraged to irrigate their crops frequently and utilize mulching techniques to protect them from rising temperatures. With temperatures expected to rise by another two to three degrees Celsius over the next three days, state authorities are on high alert regarding the worsening heat situation.
