Lavrov Meets Modi: Strengthening India-Russia Ties Amid Global Challenges

New Delhi, May 14: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday. They discussed the progress of bilateral cooperation and current global and regional issues. Lavrov is in India to participate in a two-day BRICS Foreign Ministers’ conference.

During the meeting, Lavrov briefed Modi on the achievements and advancements in various areas of bilateral cooperation since the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit held in December 2025. The discussions covered defense, energy, space, technology, and trade, highlighting the deepening dialogue and strategic partnership between the two nations.

The leaders also engaged in detailed discussions on several international issues, including the current situation in Ukraine and the Middle East. Prime Minister Modi emphasized India’s commitment to peaceful resolutions and readiness to collaborate for global peace and stability.

Modi reiterated India’s clear policy for restoring peace, stating that solutions to global and regional challenges can only be achieved through dialogue and diplomacy. He expressed India’s willingness to play a balanced and fair role in the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

The Prime Minister requested Lavrov to convey his best wishes to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He stressed the need for continuous dialogue and cooperation to further strengthen the long-standing ties between India and Russia.

This meeting is seen as a significant step towards redefining India-Russia relations and enhancing existing bilateral cooperation. Both sides agreed on the necessity of collaborating to tackle future global challenges and maintain regional stability.

Through this engagement, a strong message has been sent globally about the strategic and economic partnership between India and Russia.
