Amsterdam, May 14: India’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Kumar Tuhin, emphasized the significance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to the Netherlands. This meeting marks the first summit-level interaction between the two leaders following the formation of the new Dutch government and the appointment of Prime Minister Rob Jetten.

In an exclusive interview, Ambassador Tuhin stated, “Both leaders will review the progress made in various sectors and discuss strategies to enhance bilateral relations. Key advancements are expected in areas such as new technology, semiconductors, and sustainable energy.”

The discussions are likely to cover a wide range of topics, including trade and investment, technology, education, health, maritime cooperation, and current global conditions.

The Netherlands is regarded as a crucial trade partner for India and serves as a gateway to Europe. Tuhin believes that the role of the Netherlands will become even more significant following the implementation of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Regarding the energy sector, he noted that many major energy companies are based in the Netherlands, which already has strong partnerships with India. Modi’s mission ‘LIFE’ and commitment to clean energy open up substantial collaboration opportunities between the two nations.

Tuhin highlighted that trade and investment ties between India and the Netherlands are already robust. Numerous Indian companies operate in the Netherlands, while many Dutch firms are active in India.

According to the ambassador, there is potential not only to increase investments but also to strengthen joint projects, capacity building, and institutional cooperation.

He mentioned that collaboration continues at the governmental level across various platforms. The Netherlands is a member of the International Solar Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), while India is part of the Global Commission on Adaptation.

Tuhin remarked that this partnership naturally leverages each country’s strengths. The Netherlands possesses technical expertise, while India boasts a vast market and potential. Shared democratic values can further strengthen this collaboration.

He also noted that the Netherlands is home to one of the largest Indian communities in Europe. People of Indian origin play an active role in the economic, social, and political life there, serving as a cultural bridge between the two nations.

Discussions on cooperation in education and health are also anticipated between the two leaders. The ambassador revealed that last year, six IIT institutions in India signed cooperation agreements with the University of Twente and Eindhoven University of Technology.

He stated that sectors such as health, water, and agriculture are witnessing rapid cooperation growth. Last year, two memoranda of understanding (MOUs) were signed in the pharma sector, and discussions continue through joint working groups in health.

According to Ambassador Tuhin, the Netherlands has advanced health technology, while India has a rapidly growing, innovation-driven healthcare ecosystem. This creates significant opportunities for collaboration in health innovation, pharmaceutical partnerships, and exchanges between doctors and researchers.
