Delhis Lieutenant Governor Advocates for Public Transport and Fuel Savings

New Delhi, May 14: Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, T.S. Sandhu, urged citizens to embrace public transport widely. He set an example by traveling on the Metro’s North-South corridor to attend an official event, as reported by an official.

During his journey, Sandhu engaged in open conversations with fellow passengers, some of whom requested selfies with him.

In a message on X, he expressed, “I am once again experiencing the heartbeat of the city through the Metro, which is efficient, accessible, and connects millions daily.”

He noted that in his recent travels, he found it to be the most efficient way to navigate the city while contributing to a sustainable environment. Sandhu encouraged everyone to adopt public transport, carpooling, and electric vehicles wherever possible. He emphasized that these collective efforts, though simple, play a crucial role in strengthening our energy security and building a greener, cleaner Delhi for future generations.

His call for using clean transport aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal to prepare for the “challenging period” arising from the West Asia conflict.

Delhi’s Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, has also announced a mandatory two-day work-from-home policy for government offices to promote fuel savings.

Additionally, the Prime Minister has significantly reduced the size of his convoy and instructed the Special Protection Group (SPG) to keep the convoy minimal while maintaining necessary security protocols.

Sources indicate that during Modi’s recent visits to Assam for Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s swearing-in ceremony and the Somnath Amrit Mahotsav in Gujarat, the number of vehicles in his convoy was lower than usual.

The SPG has begun adhering to these directives by reducing the number of vehicles while ensuring essential security arrangements remain intact.

This move comes after criticism from the opposition, which accused the Modi government of imposing harsh measures on citizens while shielding itself from the global oil crisis.
