Patna, May 14: After a significant defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) received a boost with a remarkable victory in the Bhojpur-Buxar Legislative Council by-election. RJD candidate Sonu Kumar Rai triumphed over Janata Dal (United) candidate Kanhaiya Prasad in this crucial contest.
Celebrations erupted outside the counting center as party workers rejoiced over the decisive lead. Meanwhile, at the RJD’s state office in Patna, members celebrated the win, sharing sweets and congratulating each other. The seat became vacant after MLC Radha Charan Seth resigned following his victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, prompting this by-election. A total of six candidates contested for this seat.
Kanhaiya Prasad represented the NDA, while Sonu Kumar Rai stood for the RJD in this election. Voting took place on May 12, and this victory is seen as a setback for the NDA. At the RJD state office, party leaders celebrated Sonu Kumar Rai’s win and extended congratulations to local representatives and party workers from Bhojpur and Buxar.
On this occasion, RJD state president Mangni Lal Mandal stated that this victory reflects the public’s trust in democratic representatives and the faith of party leaders and workers in Tejashwi Yadav, marking a win for the democratic process.
RJD’s chief spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav emphasized that whenever elections are held via ballot, democracy strengthens. He noted that those who attempt to undermine the democratic process through manipulation should understand that the people’s choice prevails. It is well-known that in the Assembly elections, the RJD had gained a lead on 143 seats through ballot papers, while the NDA’s victory was achieved through manipulation.
