Hindustan Zinc Marks 37th Road Safety Month with Statewide Awareness Drive

Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc Limited, a Vedanta Group company and one of the world’s largest integrated zinc and silver producers, observed the 37th Road Safety Month and National Road Safety Week across all its business locations with a series of extensive awareness initiatives.

The month-long programme reflected the company’s commitment to road safety and saving lives, bringing together thousands of employees, business partners, drivers, schoolchildren and nearby communities to promote responsible road behaviour.

Across various units, the campaign began with inauguration ceremonies led by senior leadership and district officials. Bike rallies were flagged off at multiple locations in the presence of district authorities, highlighting the importance of defensive and disciplined driving. Employees, business partners and local officials participated, reinforcing the message of shared responsibility for safer roads.

At operational locations, structured activities were rolled out to engage people at all levels. Zawar Mines organised pledge ceremonies, safety marches, awareness drives at the Baroi site and recognition of best drivers and operators. Debari conducted pamphlet distribution, bike rallies, stop-and-talk activities, demonstrations of VDSS model vehicles and community engagement programmes.

Agucha Mine focused on behavioural safety through stop-and-talk activities, blind-spot training for over 500 workers and leadership engagement with business partners to strengthen compliance. Dariba saw extensive outreach, while Sindesar Khurd Mine organised training for business partner families, village awareness programmes, vehicle inspections, HIV-AIDS awareness, fire safety training, reflective neck straps for cattle and a community-led session by a woman operator.

Rajpura Dariba Mine conducted walkathons, rallies, driver behaviour campaigns, handbook distribution and helmet distribution drives. The Dariba Smelting Complex trained schoolchildren through fire safety and CPR demonstrations and extended road safety awareness and helmet distribution in nearby villages.

At Chanderia, road safety and defensive driving training was provided to Hindustan Zinc School students and teachers through interactive quizzes and recognition. Kayad Mine conducted student training, fire safety demonstrations, competitions, road safety audits, street plays and distributed road safety manuals. Pantnagar organised large-scale public initiatives in collaboration with police and the RTO, including bike rallies, eye and PUC camps, slogan competitions, stop-and-talk programmes, reflector distribution and installation of reflectors at blind spots to improve safety in low-light conditions.

Through these collective efforts across mines, smelters, communities, schools and public institutions, Hindustan Zinc reaffirmed its commitment to a zero-harm culture. The observance of the 37th Road Safety Month strengthened internal safety practices while also increasing public awareness, reinforcing the message that road safety is a shared responsibility and a key pillar of community well-being.
