New Police Commissioner in Chennai Launches Crackdown on Criminals

Chennai, May 25: The newly appointed Police Commissioner of Chennai, Dr. A. Amalraj, has initiated a rigorous crackdown on criminal elements throughout the city. In a large-scale operation aimed at strengthening law and order and curbing anti-social activities, police have arrested 15 criminals.

Following the commissioner’s directives, special police teams, led by inspectors from various police stations, conducted coordinated surveillance and targeted raids across the Chennai metropolitan area.

The police reported that the operation aimed to take preventive action against individuals allegedly involved in extortion, violent crimes, threats, and other illegal activities affecting residents and businesses throughout the city.

During this campaign, police scrutinized the activities of 410 individuals with criminal backgrounds and identified repeat offenders. Authorities stated that the goal of the operation was to keep a close watch on known criminal gangs and deter illegal activities through continuous monitoring and enforcement.

Among those arrested were 22-year-old Vijay, also known as Jackie, and 25-year-old Kishore, apprehended by the Kodungaiyur police. The police also arrested Sanjay, alias Dolu (24), linked to the MKB Nagar police station, and Ramesh, alias Rangaraj (25), associated with the New Washermanpet police station.

Police teams inspected 86 locations suspected of drug-related activities. Officials reported that 36 drug offenders are under surveillance, and two new cases related to drug trafficking have been registered.

During the anti-drug operation, four individuals were arrested, and authorities seized 1.2 kilograms of cannabis and 30 painkiller tablets, suspected to be linked to illegal drug activities.

Police officials stated that the city administration will continue to conduct such coordinated operations regularly to prevent criminal activities and enhance public safety. Commissioner Amalraj emphasized that strict action against gangsters, criminals with records, and individuals involved in illegal activities will persist.
