Gujarat DGP Utilizes Video Conferencing for Court Appearance in Kutch

Gandhinagar, May 26: The Director General of Police (DGP) of Gujarat, K.L.N. Rao, appeared before a Kutch court via video conferencing on Tuesday. This appearance was related to a 2021 case involving the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). Officials highlighted this as a practical example of the increasing use of digital systems in judicial proceedings across the state.

Rao participated from the formal witness statement center at the Gandhinagar District Court while the hearing was ongoing at the Gandhi Dham court in Kutch. His testimony was recorded remotely through the court’s video conferencing facility, focusing on the prosecution’s approval in the case.

Officials noted that this arrangement eliminated the need for Rao to travel the long distance between Gandhinagar and Kutch, thereby expediting the entire process. This system is part of broader efforts by the judiciary and police department to reduce physical travel for witnesses, officials, and other stakeholders involved in court proceedings.

According to the police department, the video conferencing facility was designed to save time and reduce fuel and logistics costs. It also ensures that delays in court hearings do not occur due to the unavailability of witnesses or travel-related obstacles.

Additionally, this system aims to lessen the administrative burden on police personnel who often need to travel for court appearances, allowing them to focus on law enforcement operations. It also reduces the need to transport prisoners from jails to court premises for regular hearings.

Rao emphasized the necessity of incorporating technology into judicial processes today. He stated that adopting technology is a demand of the times, helping to save time, energy, and fuel, which is a national resource. He also urged for the widespread use of video conferencing facilities by police personnel, witnesses, and citizens involved in legal actions across the state.

On the same day, Rao chaired a separate statewide review meeting via video conference to discuss preparations for Bakri Eid, which included participation from all city police commissioners, range inspectors general, and district superintendents of police virtually.
