India-U.S. Trade Agreement to Benefit Both Nations: Marco Rubio

New Delhi, May 24: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Sunday that the India-U.S. trade agreement will be advantageous for both countries and is currently being finalized. He emphasized that the bilateral partnership between the two nations is progressing positively.

During a joint press conference with Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, Rubio remarked, “We have made significant progress in bilateral trade talks, and I believe we will reach a long-term trade agreement that will be beneficial for both sides while considering national interests.”

Regarding the tariffs imposed on India by the Trump administration, Rubio explained that the economic strategy was focused on restructuring America’s global trade framework rather than targeting any specific nation.

He stated, “This was solely about U.S. trade. President Trump never suggested finding a way to escalate tensions with India. We face challenges related to the U.S. economy that cannot be ignored.”

Rubio further noted, “The U.S. has a significant trade imbalance that needs to be addressed. The President’s aim was simply to rectify this, not to target India.”

He announced that a U.S. trade delegation will visit India “very soon” to finalize the upcoming agreement.

Rubio added, “India is a vast economy. We are a leading trading partner here. Given the scale of trade we conduct with such a large country, establishing a trade balance is crucial.”

He concluded, “Through this rebalancing, we are ultimately seeking trade agreements worldwide, and we are confident that we will reach agreements that are beneficial for the United States and also advantageous for our trading partners.”
