Fuel Prices Surge Again: Opposition Parties Criticize Government

Chandigarh, May 25: Fuel prices have risen once more, with petrol increasing by ₹2.61 per liter and diesel by ₹2.71 per liter. This marks the fourth price hike in just ten days. Opposition parties have targeted the central government, labeling the hikes as an additional burden on the general public, farmers, and small businesses.

In an exclusive interview with a news agency in Jhajjar, Congress MLA Geeta Bhukkal expressed concern over the continuous rise in fuel prices. She noted that this is the fourth consecutive increase, exacerbating inflation. The rising costs are directly impacting farmers and everyday citizens. Questions have also arisen regarding the supply of petrol and diesel, as there are claims of limited fuel availability in Chandigarh.

Bhukkal highlighted that expenses for food items and restaurant services are increasing, affecting social activities. She pointed out that community kitchens, or langars, are also being impacted. She urged the government to take this issue seriously, stating that merely cycling in protest will not resolve the problem. While the government promotes ‘work from home’ policies, those involved in delivery and transportation cannot do so, and their concerns must also be addressed.

Meanwhile, Anurag Dhanda, a leader from the Aam Aadmi Party in Rohtak, stated that petrol and diesel prices have surged by approximately ₹7.5 in the past ten days. He accused the government of incrementally increasing prices, placing a burden on the public. Dhanda warned that if this trend continues, petrol prices could reach ₹150 per liter, making it difficult for ordinary citizens to afford transportation.

He emphasized that low-income individuals who rely on motorcycles may struggle to fill their tanks, and drivers of autos and trucks are also feeling the strain. The impact of rising fuel prices on business and daily expenses is evident, leading to increasing economic difficulties for the general populace.
