North Koreas Workers Party to Hold Key Meeting at Months End for Policy Review

Seoul, May 25: North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) is set to convene a full meeting next month to review government and party policies implemented this year. This information was reported by state media on Monday.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the party’s Political Bureau has decided that the second full meeting of the Ninth Central Committee will take place at the end of June.

The purpose of this meeting is to assess the implementation of party and state policies for 2026 and to discuss plans for the second half of the year, along with several critical issues. KCNA did not provide further details.

North Korea typically holds such meetings regularly in June and December, and occasionally calls them for urgent matters.

It remains unclear whether any significant decisions regarding policies against South Korea or the United States will be made during this meeting. Speculation is also rising that Chinese President Xi Jinping may visit North Korea next week. Jinping could play a mediating role between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump, according to a senior government official cited by South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency.

Yonhap reported that this June meeting comes at a time when North Korea is attempting to implement decisions made during the Ninth Party Congress held at the end of February.

In the following month, North Korea amended its constitution, adding a new regional provision that defines the country’s borders extending north to areas adjacent to China and Russia, and south to South Korea. Additionally, any mention of unification with South Korea was removed.
