Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijays First Official Visit to New Delhi Scheduled

Chennai, May 26: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay is set to visit New Delhi on May 27. This will be his first official trip to the capital since taking office. The visit holds significant importance following his rapid rise in state politics and the formation of the first coalition government in Tamil Nadu in decades.

According to sources, Vijay will travel to Delhi on Wednesday and may return to Chennai the same day. During this visit, he is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. It is anticipated that he will request increased financial assistance for Tamil Nadu and seek swift approvals for several key infrastructure and development projects.

The Chief Minister is likely to advocate for more support from the central government for the state’s development. This may include demands for infrastructure expansion, the release of pending funds, support for industrial development plans, welfare programs, and major connectivity projects.

The political significance of this visit has heightened, as it comes just weeks after Vijay and his party, Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), achieved remarkable electoral success. This is seen as a major shift in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.

For the first time contesting in the assembly elections, TVK secured 108 seats in the 234-member assembly, establishing itself as the largest party. This victory has disrupted the long-standing political dominance of Dravidian parties in the state.

Despite becoming the largest party, TVK fell short of the 118 seats required for a majority, prompting swift political maneuvers post-election. Subsequently, Vijay garnered support from several parties, including Congress, leftist groups, the Indian Union Muslim League, and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi. With this backing, he easily crossed the majority mark and paved the way for forming a coalition government. This marks a significant political transformation in Tamil Nadu, which has historically been dominated by DMK or AIADMK-led governments.

Political analysts believe that all eyes will be on Vijay’s visit to Delhi. It is expected that this trip will signal how the new coalition government of Tamil Nadu intends to collaborate with the central government and fulfill its priorities.
