Ahmedabad, May 26: Gujarat’s Health Minister, Praful Panseriya, announced plans for a state-of-the-art super specialty hostel and canteen block at the New Mental Campus near Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. This initiative comes in response to the damage caused by the Ahmedabad plane crash on June 12, 2025, which severely impacted the ‘Atulyam 1 to 4′ blocks, canteen, and sub-station buildings.
The health department has requested ₹53.12 crore from Tata Airlines to cover the damages. Tata Airlines has agreed to pay the full amount in due course. The crash left 92 students residing in the hostel at the time, and a structural audit deemed the buildings unsafe, necessitating their demolition. To ensure students’ accommodation needs are met, the state government, under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s guidance, has decided to construct a new hostel.
The new facility will be built at an estimated cost of ₹105 crore and will accommodate 236 married super specialty postgraduate doctors, considering the addition of 48 new seats in the medical field. The project will also include a modern canteen block and a new sub-station, with sufficient land already allocated by the state government.
Minister Panseriya further stated that to expedite this project, ₹34.65 crore has been approved in the current financial year’s budget, compared to the estimated ₹51.84 crore. The state government remains committed to strengthening infrastructure in the health sector.
The newly planned ‘Atulyam 1 to 7’ PG hostel will feature a G+8 structure equipped with modern amenities. Each flat will be designed in a studio apartment style, complete with a living room, attached kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. Additionally, safety features such as a fire fighting system, RO plant, and robust drainage system will be included.
To enhance student comfort, the hostel campus will also offer a spacious basement for parking, separate accommodation for unmarried PG students, a modern mess, gym, recreation room, and attractive landscaping.
