New Delhi, May 26: Emphasizing the unique relationship between India and Israel, Israeli Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, stated on Tuesday that the partnership is founded on six core values. These include civilizational resilience, the fight against terrorism, democratic principles, innovation, religious tolerance, and inclusive development.
In a video message shared on the social media platform X, Azar remarked, “The relationship between Israel and India is very special and unique. Upon reflection, I concluded that the reason for our remarkable relationship is these six core values.”
He highlighted the first value as the strength of civilization and national revival.
Azar noted, “For centuries, foreign powers have attacked our civilizations, targeting our identity. Throughout history, there have been attempts to erase our identity. Yet, despite enduring hardships for over a thousand years, we have survived; our identity remains intact, and this is a common thread among us. We are all modern nations revitalizing our personal and national identities.”
He pointed out that both countries are facing a rising tide of extremism globally, particularly from radical Islam. Azar emphasized that the second foundation of cooperation is the fight against terrorism. “We are confronting a wave of extremism, especially from radical Islam, which poses a threat to our nations and existence. We have worked together for decades to develop necessary strategies to address this threat.”
Describing India as the world’s largest democracy, Azar stressed that the third factor is shared democratic values. He stated that the freedom of speech and entrepreneurship reflects a spirit of freedom present in both systems, strengthening their relationship.
He emphasized the fourth principle of innovation and competitiveness, stating that achieving a better standard of living requires not only freedom but also innovation and success in efforts to improve the world.
Azar said, “Israel and India have been sources of innovation. Together, we are working to create a more competitive environment that will make us stronger and happier.”
Highlighting the fifth aspect of their long-standing partnership, he pointed to religious tolerance and spiritual heritage, underscoring shared values of acceptance and coexistence. He noted that there has been no history of anti-Semitism in India.
Azar remarked, “We are ancient civilizations, and we have a beautiful tradition of embracing others. Jews have felt very comfortable in India for thousands of years. There has never been an anti-Jewish sentiment in this country.”
Finally, the Israeli ambassador stated that continuous yet inclusive development is the last core value. Both countries work to ensure that those who are marginalized, lack opportunities, or face physical or mental challenges are included in the economy.
Azar concluded that Israel shares these values exclusively with India. As they collaborate, it is crucial to focus on promoting these values. Achieving this requires not only deeper thinking but also investment in fulfilling these principles.
