Kabul, May 26: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has officially announced the squad for the upcoming Test and three-match ODI series against India. The announcement was made on Tuesday, confirming Hashmatullah Shahidi as the captain for both formats. Each team comprises 15 players.
For this crucial series against India, the squad features star players like Rashid Khan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Mohammad Nabi, and Azmatullah Omarzai, who are expected to play pivotal roles.
In the ODI format, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran will be key batsmen, opening the innings. Shahidi, Rahmat Shah, and Darwish Rasooli will strengthen the middle order. All-rounders Nabi and Omarzai will contribute significantly with both bat and ball.
The bowling attack will be led by Rashid Khan, supported by young spinner A.M. Gajanfar and fast bowlers Bilal Sami, Farid Malik, and Zia-ur-Rehman Sharifi. Nangyal Kharotai is also included in the squad, while Kais Ahmad, Salim Safi, and Bashir Ahmad are kept as reserves.
The Test squad has a slightly different composition. Abdul Malik, Rahmanullah Zadran, and Sharafuddin Ashraf have been added to the red-ball team. Rahmat Shah and Gurbaz have retained their spots. Ikram Alikhil and Afsar Jazi have been selected as wicketkeepers.
Notably, Rashid Khan is not part of the Test team. The spin bowling responsibilities will be handled by Sharafuddin Ashraf, Kais Ahmad, and Nangyal Kharotai.
The single Test between India and Afghanistan is scheduled to take place from June 6 to 10 in New Chandigarh. This will be followed by three ODIs, with the first ODI in Dharamshala on June 13, the second in Lucknow on June 17, and the third in Chennai on June 20.
