Bhilwara, July 30: A dramatic incident involving dodachura smugglers breaking a police checkpoint and escaping after firing was reported late Monday night in the Mandal police station area of Bhilwara district. The entire episode was captured on a CCTV camera installed in the Mandal market, and the footage surfaced on Tuesday evening.

According to police sources, information was received that a black Thar vehicle without a number plate was transporting a large quantity of dodachura. In response, the Pur police station set up blockades on major routes.
Late at night, a suspicious Thar approached at high speed, broke through the blockade, and fled. The police quickly alerted other stations via wireless, prompting the Mandal police to respond swiftly.
Escape Attempt and Firing
Mandal SHO Vikram Singh said the Thar got stuck near a bend about 1.5 kilometres from the blockade. SHO Singh and Constable Mahavir reached the spot and tried to intercept the vehicle. The constable attempted to stop the smugglers by breaking the window on the opposite side of the driver using a gun and signalling them to halt. However, the situation escalated, and police fired at the vehicle’s tyres. Despite this, the smugglers managed to escape with the vehicle.
To evade capture, the smugglers drove the Thar into narrow village lanes and later fled towards Bheem Road. During the chase, the police found three sacks thrown from the Thar. One of the sacks was found to contain 8.690 kg of dodachura.
Senior Officers Inspect Scene
Upon receiving the information, Additional SP Roshan Patel and Deputy SP Megha Goyal arrived at the scene and reviewed the entire sequence of events. Deputy SP Goyal said that the smugglers used a numberless Thar, which poses a challenge in identifying the vehicle and its occupants. However, efforts are underway with the help of cyber teams and CCTV footage.
Commendation for Mandal Police
Bhilwara SP Dharmendra Singh praised the swift action and bravery of the Mandal police. He stated that this incident proves the district police’s commitment to tackling the narcotics trade. He assured that the smugglers would be arrested soon.
Multiple police teams have been deployed to raid possible hideouts. Surveillance has also been intensified in rural areas. The police are analysing mobile location data and past records to uncover the entire smuggling network.
