However, health experts caution that drinking water immediately after returning from the sun can lead to serious health issues. The National Health Mission (NHM) has highlighted common mistakes people make when hydrating after sun exposure.

Many individuals tend to drink cold or iced water right after coming indoors, which can be detrimental to their health. According to NHM, this habit can be dangerous. When the body overheats, consuming cold water can cause a sudden drop in body temperature, adversely affecting the digestive system, throat, and other organs. Therefore, it is essential to adopt proper hydration practices after being in the sun.

The body continuously loses water during hot weather. Drinking water correctly can prevent dehydration, heat stroke, and other heat-related illnesses. Experts emphasize the importance of adequate water intake throughout the day but stress the need for the right timing and methods.

Here are some tips for proper hydration after sun exposure:
1. Wait Before Drinking: Allow your body to rest for at least 10-15 minutes after returning indoors. Sit in the shade to let your body temperature normalize.
2. Avoid Very Cold Water: Cold or iced water can lead to throat irritation, stomach pain, or even a cold.
3. Sip Slowly: Instead of gulping down a full glass, drink water in small sips.
4. Opt for Room Temperature Water: If possible, drink water that has been stored at room temperature.
5. Let Your Body Cool Down: Allow sweat to dry and your breathing to return to normal before drinking water.

Additionally, it is advisable to carry a water bottle when going outside. Fruit juices or coconut water can also provide hydration and energy. Special care should be taken for children and the elderly, as they are more susceptible to dehydration.
