Mumbai, May 23: Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has commended Ishan Kishan for his impressive batting. Pathan stated that Ishan is playing a crucial role at the number three position and has been a significant strength for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) this season.
In a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Friday, Ishan delivered a stellar performance, scoring 79 runs off 46 balls. His innings helped SRH post a formidable total of 255 runs while losing just four wickets. In response, RCB managed only 200 runs, losing the match by 55 runs.
Speaking to ‘JioHotstar’, Pathan remarked, “Ishan Kishan has shown remarkable improvement throughout the season. His ability to take responsibility in various match conditions and on different pitches is truly impressive. He is playing a vital role for SRH at number three and appears to be a complete batter.”
Pathan acknowledged that Ishan has improved significantly against spin bowling this season. He noted, “He has been exceptional against spin, especially on the off-side. When you add his strengths on the on-side, it becomes very difficult to contain him. At one point during his innings, he looked completely in control.”
During the match, a heated exchange occurred between Virat Kohli and Travis Head while RCB was chasing. Pathan believes such incidents are common in intense matches. He stated, “Virat Kohli enjoys playing cricket with that aggressive Australian spirit, mixing competitiveness with banter, and at that moment, he was challenging Head.”
Pathan concluded, “Such incidents are quite normal in highly competitive matches, especially when both teams are vying for the top spot in the standings. Despite the loss to SRH, RCB remains at the top of the table and has secured a ticket to the first qualifier.”
