New Delhi, May 23: The Special Cell of Delhi Police has submitted a 13,000-page supplementary charge sheet under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) concerning the December 2023 Parliament security breach case. The charge sheet accuses the defendants of serious offenses, including terrorist activities, conspiracy to incite riots, and endangering national security.
This comprehensive charge sheet is based on evidence gathered during the investigation, including digital data, chats, call records, social media activities, and other technical evidence. Police claim that the accused conspired to deliberately breach the security arrangements of Parliament, aiming to create an atmosphere of fear and unrest across the country.
The charge sheet includes several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with serious provisions of the UAPA. The defendants face charges of obstructing government operations, preventing public servants on duty, inciting riots, destroying evidence, criminal conspiracy, and offenses related to terrorist activities.
According to Delhi Police, the attempt to breach security at such a sensitive location as Parliament was not an ordinary protest but rather evidence of an organized conspiracy with extensive preparations. Investigative agencies are now conducting a thorough examination of other potential networks, funding sources, and foreign connections related to this case.
In December 2023, during the winter session of Parliament, a group of young individuals jumped from the visitors’ gallery into the Lok Sabha chamber, releasing smoke canisters. This incident raised serious questions about the security measures in place at Parliament. Following the event, the Special Cell of Delhi Police initiated an investigation into the matter.
