Severe Storms Hit Uttar Pradesh, CM Yogi Orders Damage Assessment

Lucknow, May 29: A sudden change in weather has struck North India amidst intense heat and heatwaves. Heavy winds accompanied by rain provided some relief from the scorching temperatures, but several incidents occurred across Uttar Pradesh during this time. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken note of the accidents caused by the storms and has directed officials to assess the damage.

On the night of May 28, strong winds and rain affected multiple districts in Uttar Pradesh. Many areas reported uprooted poles, disrupting electricity supply. There were also reports of fallen trees and collapsed houses causing significant damage.

A tragic incident occurred in Hamirpur, where a construction bridge collapsed, resulting in the deaths of six workers. In Noida, a wall fell due to the strong winds, injuring a 15-year-old boy in the Sector-63 area.

In Raebareli, a woman was killed when a tree fell on her while she was sleeping. In Kaushambi, three fatalities were reported, including a mother, son, and daughter who were asleep at home when a tree fell on their house due to the storm.

Power supply has been disrupted in several regions, including Hathras, Firozabad, and Mathura, due to the storm’s impact. CM Yogi has acknowledged these incidents and instructed for compensation to be provided after assessing the damage.

The Chief Minister expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased. He directed officials to evaluate the loss of life, livestock, and economic damage caused by heavy rainfall, lightning, and storms, ensuring that affected individuals receive compensation within 24 hours.

He has also instructed senior officials to visit the affected families in the field and ensure all possible assistance is provided. Officials have been asked to maintain continuous communication with the impacted families and offer them every possible support.

It is noteworthy that alerts had already been issued by the meteorological department for several districts, including Agra, Mathura, Hathras, Firozabad, Etah, Kasganj, Farrukhabad, Mainpuri, Kannauj, Hardoi, Lakhimpur Kheri, Etawah, Auraiya, Kanpur, Unnao, Raebareli, Fatehpur, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Mahoba, Banda, Hamirpur, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Prayagraj, Sant Ravidas Nagar, Mirzapur, and Sonbhadra.

The meteorological department has issued warnings for storms, rain, and strong winds in many parts of the state until May 31.
