Mumbai, May 29: Sanjay Nirupam, spokesperson for the Shiv Sena, stated on Friday that the Maharashtra government is fully committed to continuing the ‘Ladli Behan’ scheme. He accused the opposition of spreading confusion and misinformation regarding this welfare initiative.
Nirupam’s remarks came a day after Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde criticized opposition parties. Shinde alleged that these parties misled the public about issues related to the ‘Ladli Behan’ scheme, agricultural loan waivers, and crop insurance programs.
While addressing a Shiv Sena rally in Ahmedpur on Thursday, Shinde emphasized that beneficiaries of government welfare schemes, particularly farmers and women, will not be neglected under any circumstances.
He stated, “Farmers work tirelessly in harsh weather conditions to feed the nation, but natural disasters often push them into debt. The first right to the state treasury belongs to the farmers. We will not abandon the beneficiaries of welfare schemes.” He also accused the opposition of spreading false information about the ‘Ladli Behan’ scheme and other welfare programs.
In an interview, Nirupam reiterated that the government will continue to provide financial assistance to women through this scheme. He remarked, “The opposition and some individuals are trying to create confusion about the Maharashtra government’s ‘Ladli Behan’ scheme. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has already made it clear that this scheme will not be discontinued. The government will continue to provide financial support to mothers and sisters under all circumstances.”
He alleged that false narratives about the state’s financial condition are being deliberately spread to instill fear among beneficiaries.
Nirupam stated, “There is a conspiracy against this scheme through false propaganda about Maharashtra’s economic situation. The government stands firmly with women and will not allow any such conspiracy to succeed.”
Nirupam also responded to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement, suggesting that illegal immigrants should return to their home countries voluntarily without facing legal action. He mentioned that strict action against Bangladeshi immigrants would commence after a government change in West Bengal.
He noted that the BJP had promised stringent measures against illegal immigrants during elections. Nirupam remarked, “Union Home Minister Amit Shah has taken a firm stance on this issue. A large number of illegal Bangladeshis reside in West Bengal, surviving on forged documents. Strict action should be initiated across the country in the interest of national security and demographic balance.”
Commenting on the political developments in Karnataka following Siddaramaiah’s resignation from the Chief Minister’s position, Nirupam stated that the political situation in the southern state remains unstable.
He said, “The political drama in Karnataka is not over yet. By rejecting the Rajya Sabha proposal, Siddaramaiah has made it clear that he intends to remain active in state politics. The question is how effectively the new Chief Minister will be able to work in the presence of such a formidable political leader. Stepping down from the Chief Minister’s position does not mean the end of one’s political career.”
Nirupam also addressed the recent deaths in Pimpri-Chinchwad allegedly caused by consuming toxic alcohol.
He expressed, “Alcohol is harmful in itself, but toxic alcohol becomes directly lethal. I extend my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.”
He demanded strict action against those involved in the production and sale of illegal alcohol and called for a crackdown on the active liquor mafia across Maharashtra. Nirupam stated, “Strong measures should be taken to ensure that the poor and common people do not lose their lives due to cheap and toxic alcohol.”
