New Delhi, May 29: Experiencing a fever during the summer is often considered normal. However, not every fever is benign. Symptoms like high fever, chills, and weakness can signal malaria. Ignoring these signs can be detrimental to your health.
The National Health Mission (NHM) has issued a warning that malaria should not be taken lightly. Timely testing and appropriate treatment can lead to a complete recovery from this disease. Health experts emphasize that awareness is the best prevention against malaria.
Malaria spreads through mosquito bites and is caused by a parasite known as Plasmodium. Initial symptoms often resemble those of a common viral fever, leading many to overlook them. However, if left untreated, malaria can become life-threatening.
According to health experts, be cautious if you experience recurring high fever, chills, severe headaches, fatigue, excessive sweating, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, restlessness, or loss of appetite. Seek medical attention immediately and undergo a blood test, as a simple blood examination is sufficient to diagnose malaria.
The NHM states that malaria prevention is possible. If the right medication is started promptly, patients can recover fully within days. To prevent malaria, it is crucial to take certain precautions: avoid stagnant water around your home, use mosquito nets, wear long-sleeved clothing, and apply mosquito repellent. Additionally, do not self-medicate during a fever; always consult a doctor.
