
Singapore, May 29: Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met with Admiral Giuseppe Cavò Dragone, Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee, during the Shangri-La Dialogue held in Singapore on Friday.
The meeting focused on enhancing strategic dialogue and addressing the evolving global security landscape. The Ministry of Defence shared on social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh engaged in discussions with Admiral Giuseppe Cavò Dragone during SLD-26. The main focus was on strengthening strategic dialogue and sharing insights on changing global security challenges. This conversation reaffirmed India’s commitment to constructive collaboration with major multilateral defence organizations.”
The Shangri-La Dialogue features participation from government ministers of various countries. It includes extensive discussion sessions and bilateral meetings among representatives from different nations. Policymakers from the Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe, the Middle East, and other regions discuss regional security issues and strategies to address them.
Earlier on Friday, Rajesh Kumar Singh also met with Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, Commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. They discussed enhancing military cooperation, strengthening partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region, and addressing new security challenges.
The Ministry of Defence noted on ‘X’, “Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met with Admiral Samuel J. Paparo during the Shangri-La Dialogue 2026 in Singapore. The discussions centered around strengthening military cooperation, enhancing partnerships in the Indo-Pacific, and tackling emerging security challenges. This reiterated the shared commitment to further strengthen strategic defence relations between India and the United States.”
During the Shangri-La Dialogue, Singh also interacted with key think tanks and academic experts. The discussions focused on strengthening the Indo-Pacific security framework, enhancing collaboration in the defence industry, and partnerships in new technologies.
The Ministry of Defence wrote on ‘X’, “He shared India’s regional security perspective and strategic thinking at a special event on ‘India’s Defence Diplomacy for a Stable, Secure, and Inclusive Indo-Pacific.’ India’s High Commissioner to Singapore, Dr. Shilpak Ambule, also attended this event.”
On Thursday, Rajesh Kumar Singh visited the Digital Operations Technology Centre (DOTC) of the Singapore Armed Forces’ Digital and Intelligence Service. According to the Ministry of Defence, this visit provided insights into Singapore’s advanced digital and technological capabilities and discussed potential collaborations with the Indian Armed Forces in new areas related to modern warfare.
Singh co-chaired the 16th Defence Policy Dialogue with Joseph Leong, Singapore’s Permanent Secretary for Defence. The meeting focused on strengthening defence cooperation and security partnerships.
