Punes Toxic Alcohol Incident: FIR Filed by Police

Pune, May 29: In response to the tragic deaths caused by toxic alcohol consumption in Pune, the police have registered an FIR at the Hadapsar police station. The FIR names Akash Jadhav and an unidentified individual as accused. This incident is linked to the consumption of illegal alcohol, resulting in at least 13 fatalities, with several others currently receiving treatment.

The event occurred in the Pandhare Mala area of Hadapsar, where individuals began to experience severe health issues shortly after consuming the alcohol. Local residents reported that many experienced vomiting and abdominal pain within minutes of drinking. Emergency services were called, but unfortunately, some lives could not be saved.

Sundar Sable, a local resident, shared that many of the deceased were from the same neighborhood, including three individuals from one family. She noted that people’s conditions deteriorated rapidly, with two deaths reported on May 28 and the toll rising on May 29.

Another local woman expressed her outrage over the illegal alcohol trade, stating that it has led to increased family troubles and put many lives at risk. She called for a complete ban on such alcohol.

Sources from the Home Department revealed that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is taking this matter seriously and has instructed for strict action. He has directed the police commissioners of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad to conduct a joint investigation and take stringent measures against those responsible. Both police departments have been tasked with investigating the entire network involved.

Currently, police and administrative teams have conducted raids at several locations, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals. The Excise Department has also been included in the investigation to thoroughly examine the sources of the alcohol and any adulteration involved.
