Thunderstorm Tragedy in Bihar Claims Four Lives Amid Heavy Rainfall

Patna, May 29: A sudden change in weather hit Bihar on Friday, bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning to several districts. While the downpour provided relief from the oppressive heat and humidity, it also resulted in the tragic deaths of four individuals due to lightning strikes.

In the Dumaria block of Gaya district, a farmer named Dinesh Yadav lost his life when lightning struck in his village of Kishunchak. According to locals, Dinesh had gone about a kilometer away from his home to graze his buffaloes in the Haritar area. Suddenly, the weather deteriorated, and he was struck by lightning amidst the thunder and rain. He died on the spot.

Upon hearing the news, villagers and family members rushed to the scene. His wife fainted upon seeing his body. Dinesh leaves behind his wife, two sons, and two daughters, one of whom had recently been married.

Sachin Kumar, the officer in charge of Bhadaur police station, confirmed that the body has been sent to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College for post-mortem. The family will receive government assistance under the disaster relief scheme.

In another incident in Gaya district, a 17-year-old girl named Manisha Kumari was killed by lightning in Gulraved village, while her mother, Gauri Devi, suffered severe burns. Reports indicate that the mother and daughter had stepped outside their home to take shelter under a Mahua tree when lightning struck the tree. Manisha died instantly, while her mother is currently receiving medical treatment.

Additionally, in the Saran district, Chandrama Chaudhary also lost his life due to a lightning strike. Another incident in Patna district resulted in the death of one person from a lightning strike as well.

Meanwhile, in Sitamarhi and several other districts, the weather changed dramatically in the afternoon, with dark clouds bringing heavy rain and strong winds, providing some respite from the heat. However, the strong winds caused damage to trees and power poles in multiple locations. Reports of tin roofs being blown away and power outages have also surfaced.

According to the meteorological department, light to moderate rainfall with strong winds is expected in various parts of the state in the coming days.
