New Delhi, May 29: A devastating incident occurred in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh, due to a severe storm. A section of an under-construction bridge collapsed, resulting in the tragic deaths of six workers trapped under the debris. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken note of this grave accident and has directed the administration to expedite rescue operations.
The Chief Minister expressed profound sorrow over the loss of life in this incident. He extended his condolences to the grieving families. Yogi has instructed senior officials to reach the site immediately and enhance relief and rescue efforts. Additionally, he emphasized the need for officials to communicate with the families of the deceased and provide all possible assistance.
In a post on ‘X’, the Chief Minister stated that the loss of life in this unfortunate accident over the Betwa River in Hamirpur is extremely tragic and heart-wrenching. He conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families and directed the district administration to work swiftly with the SDRF for effective rescue operations. He also prayed to Lord Ram to grant peace to the departed souls and swift recovery to the injured.
According to ASP Arvind Kumar Verma, information was received around 2 AM on May 29 that a slab of the bridge connecting Morakandar and Kurara in the Lalpur area had collapsed, trapping several individuals beneath it. Local police and rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene.
The ASP further reported that three individuals remain trapped on a pillar, and the SDRF along with their team is making continuous efforts to rescue them. It has been confirmed that six individuals are trapped under the debris, five of whom have been identified. They will be extricated once the slab is removed.
Reports indicate that a significant portion of the bridge under construction over the Betwa River collapsed, burying several workers who were sleeping below. The deceased are believed to be laborers from Banda and Hamirpur districts. This bridge was being constructed through the efforts of Rajya Sabha MP Baburam Nishad.
