Six Killed in Karnataka Land Dispute Violence

Vijayapura, May 29: In a shocking incident in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district, at least six people were killed due to violent clashes over a land dispute. This tragic event occurred on Friday in Govindpur village, located in the Chincholi taluk, spreading fear throughout the area.

According to police and local sources, the violence is linked to a long-standing land dispute between the Nirale and Golagi families. Reports indicate that the attackers initially assaulted the victims with sharp weapons before shooting them dead.

The deceased have been identified as Revan Siddappa Nirale, Dundappa Revan Siddappa Nirale, Shivputra Revan Siddappa Nirale, Chandrashekar Nirale, and Shabbir Nadaf. Police confirmed that another individual also succumbed to injuries, raising the death toll to six.

It is reported that both families had been embroiled in a prolonged dispute over agricultural land ownership. A local panchayat meeting was held a few days prior to resolve the issue.

On Friday, members of the Nirale family and others arrived for another meeting aimed at settling the land dispute. During this gathering, the assailants ambushed them.

Senior police officials arrived at the scene shortly after receiving news of the incident. All bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations. To prevent any further unrest, a heavy police presence has been deployed in the village.

The police have registered a case at the Chincholi police station and have begun an investigation into the identities of the attackers and other aspects of the incident.

Notably, the area around the Bhima River has a history of violent conflicts. North Karnataka has seen numerous land disputes, gang wars, and acts of revenge over the years. Villages in Sindagi and Indi taluks have frequently experienced bloody clashes over land ownership.

According to police, the availability of illegal local weapons has also been a significant issue, with smuggling operations from neighboring states contributing to the violence. This has made the Bhima River area notorious for violent incidents and illegal arms.
