Severe Heat Wave Triggers Orange Alert in Delhi-NCR as Temperatures Soar Above 45°C

New Delhi, May 22: Residents of Delhi-NCR are grappling with extreme heat and a heatwave warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The temperature has surged above 45 degrees Celsius, prompting alerts for several states, with orange to red warnings in effect for the upcoming week.

One local expressed concern, stating that the heat is becoming unbearable. “We used to go for a run at 6 AM, but now we have to leave by 5 AM because conditions become difficult by 6 AM,” he noted. The heatwave warning has made it challenging to step outside.

Another resident mentioned, “The heat has intensified significantly. I only run in the evening now. It’s so hot that we might not even go outside.” Due to the heatwave alert, they adjusted their running schedule to an hour earlier.

A third individual remarked on the noticeable increase in temperature over the past few days. “The mornings used to be pleasant, but after 8 or 9 AM, the heat becomes oppressive, lasting until around 4 PM, with temperatures reaching 44-45 degrees Celsius.”

Dr. Naresh Kumar from IMD confirmed that an orange alert for heatwaves is in place for Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha over the next 6-7 days, including Delhi-NCR.
