Rising Concerns Over Enforced Disappearances and Killings in Balochistan

Quetta, May 22: Amid ongoing violence against civilians in Balochistan, a prominent human rights organization has highlighted the alleged extrajudicial killing of two citizens by the Pakistani military.

The Baloch National Movement (BNM) condemned the killing of an elderly farmer, Sher Dil, on May 21 in the Turbat area of Kech district. The organization claims that personnel from the Pakistan Frontier Corps (FC) opened fire near his land.

Local sources reported that Sher Dil was shot during the incident and died on the spot.

The BNM stated that conditions in Balochistan are deteriorating. Reports of killings and bodies being discovered are emerging from various regions. The local population is living in extreme pain and sorrow, especially during times that should be peaceful and united. Citizens are neither receiving security nor justice.

In another incident, the body of a 21-year-old driver, Mohsin, was found on May 19 in the Paroom area of Panjgur district. He had been forcibly disappeared approximately 66 days earlier.

According to the BNM, Mohsin was abducted from the Zirk checkpoint in Paroom on March 16. Allegations suggest that FC personnel detained him, later killing him during custody and discarding his body.

The organization has urged international human rights groups and global institutions to urgently address the deteriorating human rights situation in Balochistan. They demand accountability for those responsible, justice, the protection of citizens, and respect for affected families.

Meanwhile, local media reports indicate that seven civilians were forcibly disappeared from various districts in Balochistan on Friday. The victims include a minor boy, a singer, laborers, a fisherman, and a driver.

According to The Balochistan Post, these individuals were reportedly detained and subsequently disappeared by Pakistani security forces and intelligence agencies.

In one case, a 23-year-old driver, Javed Baloch, was taken into custody by Military Intelligence (MI) personnel at the Dhur checkpoint in Gwadar district on the evening of April 29, 2026.

In another incident, a 20-year-old singer, Khalil Karim, was abducted on April 30 from the Chah Sar area of Turbat in Kech district.

Additionally, on the night of April 19, personnel from the Frontier Corps and Military Intelligence raided homes in the Panwan area of Jiwani in Gwadar district, detaining three individuals who later reportedly went missing.

The victims include 14-year-old Dilshad Dad, driver Ali Fazal, and 19-year-old fisherman Sohel Karim.

Reports also indicate that a 24-year-old laborer, Abdul Haq Shahzad, was taken into custody by Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel and subsequently disappeared. In another case, a 30-year-old civilian named Majid, from the Kili Haji Mohammad area of Chagai district, was detained by FC and CTD personnel and has also gone missing.
