Ireland Announces Test Squad Against New Zealand, Sterling and Little Ruled Out

Dublin, May 22: Ireland has announced its 14-member squad for the upcoming Test match against New Zealand, scheduled to take place from May 27 to May 30 at Stormont in Belfast. Andrew Balbirnie will lead the team, marking his 10th time captaining Ireland in Test cricket.

The Ireland cricket board confirmed the absence of Paul Stirling, Barry McCarthy, Josh Little, Gavin Hoey, and Jordan Neil due to injuries. Hoey is sidelined with a muscle strain in his ribs, while Stirling is recovering from a shin injury.

McCarthy has been ruled out until 2027 due to an ACL tear, and Neil is recuperating from a shoulder muscle injury. Curtis Campher has yet to resume bowling. Four players—Jake Egan, Tom Mayes, Liam McCarthy, and Ruben Wilson—are in line to make their Test debuts if selected in the playing eleven.

This Test will be Ireland’s first against New Zealand and their 13th overall. Ireland has won three Tests to date, including their first Test victory against Zimbabwe at Stormont in 2024. Balbirnie is the only player to have participated in all 12 of Ireland’s Test matches so far.

Following the Test against New Zealand, Ireland will host India for two T20 matches on June 26 and 28 at Stormont in Belfast. They will then welcome Afghanistan for five One Day Internationals from August 5 to 14, also at Stormont.

Ireland Team: Andrew Balbirnie (Captain), Mark Adair, Curtis Campher, Cade Carmichael, Stephen Doheny, Jake Egan, Matthew Humphreys, Tom Mayes, Andrew McBrine, Liam McCarthy, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Ruben Wilson, Craig Young.
