Punjab Government Adjusts Office and School Hours Amid Severe Heatwave

Chandigarh, May 22: In response to the intense heat and scorching winds, the Punjab government has made a significant decision to adjust the working hours for all government offices, schools, and colleges. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced this change on Friday.

An official statement revealed that the new working hours will shift from the current schedule of 9 AM to 5 PM, to a new timeframe of 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM.

This revised schedule will take effect from May 25 and will remain in place until further notice. Chief Minister Mann emphasized that this decision was made for the convenience of the public, allowing them to conduct their official work more comfortably during the extreme heat.

After consulting with all stakeholders, the government aims to ensure the welfare of everyone involved. Mann noted that the new hours would enable people to complete their official tasks early in the morning without needing to take leave.

Additionally, this adjustment will benefit employees, as they can finish their work before the temperature rises during the day. The Chief Minister also mentioned that families would have more time together, as children will return home around the same time due to the changes in school and college hours.

He stated that this decision reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to a citizen-centric approach and improving the daily lives of its residents. The revised schedule will apply to all government offices, schools, and colleges.

According to data from the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), peak electricity consumption begins after 1 PM. Therefore, the new office hours will help reduce electricity usage and alleviate pressure on the power infrastructure.

Reiterating the government’s dedication to the welfare of all societal segments, Chief Minister Mann assured that every effort will be made to protect public amenities and ensure the well-being of the people.
