Human Rights Groups Condemn Rape and Murder of Minor in Bangladesh

Dhaka, May 22: Human rights organizations have strongly condemned the rape and murder of a minor schoolgirl in Dhaka. Local media reports indicate that this brutal incident has exposed serious weaknesses in Bangladesh’s child protection system.

The Ain o Salish Kendra, a human rights group, stated in a separate release that between January 1 and May 20, at least 118 children were raped in Bangladesh, with 46 others facing attempted rape. Tragically, 17 children were murdered following incidents of rape or attempted rape.

Expressing deep concern, the group emphasized that these incidents are not isolated cases but highlight a failure of the state’s security system and a significant crisis of social accountability.

The organization stated, “Articles 28 and 32 of the Constitution grant children the right to life, security, and dignity. Lengthy judicial processes and inadequate investigations are major obstacles to delivering justice for children.”

Condemning this heinous act, the Human Rights Support Society remarked, “The ongoing incidents of rape, murder, and abuse against children demonstrate that the current child protection mechanism is insufficiently effective.”

According to the human rights organization, rising violence against children in Bangladesh is fueled by impunity, delays in the justice system, and weak law enforcement.

The society added, “Such brutal violence against children symbolizes a serious decline in our social and moral values.”
